Fiery accusations from Egypt after controversial World Cup defeat... and this is how Zaharan Mamdani commented
After Argentina's stunning comeback, the Egyptian national team and its fans claim the match was fixed against them. CNN correspondent Don Riddell reports the details.
After one of the most remarkable comebacks in World Cup history, there is now a great deal of anger, to the point that New York Mayor Zaharan Mamdani intervened, saying Egypt was 'robbed'.
Although Argentine fans were overjoyed after the 3-2 victory, Egypt and its supporters were furious, alleging injustice and that the match in Atlanta was manipulated against them.
Their complaints were based on refereeing decisions that could have gone either way.
Egypt scored what could have been one of the best goals of the tournament, but it was disallowed by VAR due to a foul committed at the other end of the pitch.
Then Egypt felt they should have been awarded two separate penalties, but neither was reviewed by VAR nor given.
After that, their coach was enraged, suggesting that global powers in football conspired against them.
