The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has decided on its position regarding imposing sanctions on a number of Tunisian national team players who participated in the 2026 World Cup, due to positive doping tests.

The British newspaper 'Daily Mail' had indicated days ago that at least eight players from the Tunisian national team showed traces of the substance 'Clenbuterol,' banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency, a substance used medically to dilate airways but is on the prohibited list in competitive sports.

The same sources confirmed that preliminary investigations suggested that the cause of these results was the consumption of contaminated meat during the team's stay in Mexico, not for performance-enhancing purposes.

According to the Tunisian network 'Mosaique' on Tuesday, FIFA notified the Tunisian Football Federation that the players of the Carthage Eagles would not be punished.

The same source added that FIFA informed the Tunisian Federation that it had been proven that the players consumed local meat containing banned substances used for fat burning.

The Tunisian national team said goodbye to the 2026 World Cup with disastrous results, suffering three heavy defeats against Sweden (5-1), Japan (4-0), and the Netherlands (3-1), which led to the dismissal of coach Sabri Lamouchi after the first match in an unprecedented incident in World Cup history.
