FIFA on Alert: Florida Weather Threatens to Postpone England vs Norway Match
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) faces the possibility of having to make another crucial decision ahead of the anticipated quarter-final match between England and Norway in the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to take place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Saturday.
Coach Thomas Tuchel's men qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating Mexico 3-2 in the early hours of Monday morning.
Jude Bellingham scored a brace and Harry Kane added a penalty to lead the Three Lions to victory, despite being reduced to ten men after Jarrell Quansah was sent off for a violent challenge on Jesús Gallardo.
The English team resorted to heroic defensive resilience after Quansah received a red card in the 54th minute, putting fans at the Azteca Stadium and back home under nerve-wracking pressure for the final 40 minutes.
According to Sport Bible, holding on with ten men was not the only cause for concern and tension, as FIFA threatened to move the match forward by 6 hours due to heavy rain and the possibility of thunderstorms.
The US National Weather Service issued a warning about extreme heat in South Florida, noting that the heat index could reach 43 degrees Celsius due to the combination of high temperatures and humidity.
Meteorologists warned of the return of thunderstorms before the weekend, a possibility of great significance for FIFA, as the international federation's safety protocols require matches to be stopped immediately upon detecting any lightning within an 8-mile radius of the stadium.
It also indicated that the England vs Norway match is scheduled for 10:00 PM UK time (5:00 PM local time), but the scorching heat and threat of thunderstorms could lead to a postponement.
