The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced on Monday the appointment of a specialized prosecutor in disciplinary and ethical matters to investigate the events that occurred during the World Cup final match, in which Spain was crowned champion after defeating Argentina 1-0 following extra time.

The final minutes of the match witnessed tense atmospheres, especially after Ferran Torres scored Spain's winning goal in extra time, in addition to the Argentine team finishing the match with ten men following the sending off of Enzo Fernández in stoppage time of the second half of regulation time, after receiving his second yellow card.

After the referee blew the final whistle, clashes broke out between players from both teams, after Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes got into an altercation with some Spanish players, including Eric García and Gavi, before the situation escalated into a scuffle between members of both sides. Members of the technical and administrative staff of both teams intervened to contain the situation and calm the players, while Lionel Scaloni, the Argentine national team coach, tried to control the atmosphere and end the clashes that occurred on the pitch after the final whistle. The International Federation of Association Football has not yet announced the completion date of the investigation, nor has it revealed possible sanctions or disciplinary actions that may be taken against any of the parties, pending the outcome of the investigations.
