FIFA announced on Monday the appointment of a prosecutor specializing in disciplinary and ethical matters to investigate the brawl that broke out after the World Cup final, which saw Spain crowned champions after defeating Argentina 1-0 in extra time.

The match saw tense atmospheres before its conclusion, after Ferran Torres scored the winning goal for Spain in extra time, while the Argentine team finished the match with ten men following the sending off of Enzo Fernández in stoppage time of the second half of regular time, after receiving a second yellow card.

Clashes between players

After the final whistle, Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes became involved in a clash with several Spanish players, including defender Eric García and midfielder Gavi, before the clashes spread between players from both teams.

Players from both teams pushed and shoved, while administrative staff intervened to contain the situation, as Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni tried to calm things down at the end of a highly tense match.

FIFA did not set a deadline for the completion of the investigation or the announcement of any disciplinary decisions related to the events that followed the final match.
