Following Dramatic Final Events, Infantino Sends a Message to Argentina
FIFA President Gianni Infantino addressed a special message to the Argentina national team following their World Cup final defeat, praising their exceptional tournament and fighting spirit despite the match's controversial incidents.
Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), sent a special message to the Argentine national team after they lost the World Cup final last Sunday.
Argentina fell in the final match against Spain by a single goal, scored by Ferran Torres in extra time, meaning the "Tango Dancers" failed to defend the global title they won in Qatar in the 2022 edition.
The final match witnessed numerous violent incidents, most notably the expulsion of Enzo Fernández following his strong challenge on Pau Cubarsí, in addition to Leandro Paredes attacking some of the Spanish national team players after the final whistle.
The controversy did not stop there; the Argentine players also decided to head towards their fans and not watch the Spanish national team lift the trophy, in a scene that sparked widespread debate.
Despite those events, Infantino wrote via his Instagram account: "What an exceptional tournament the Argentine national team played in the World Cup! An unforgettable comeback and a fighting spirit that inspired millions, giving football fans around the world timeless moments that will never be erased from memory."
He concluded: "Returning to the World Cup final after lifting the trophy in the 2022 edition is the best evidence of the excellence and sustained high levels of Argentine football. Thank you for your contribution to making this tournament very special, and for competing with such great passion until the final moments."
