France Ends Morocco's Dream and Advances to World Cup 2026 Semifinals
With goals from Mbappé and Dembélé...
The French national team ended the dream of its Moroccan counterpart to advance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, after defeating them 2-0 on Thursday evening local time, in the quarter-finals, advancing to the semi-finals of the tournament, which they seek to win for the third time.
In Boston, USA, Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring for France in the 60th minute, raising his tally in the current edition to 8 goals, sharing the lead with Argentina's Lionel Messi, noting that he scored his 20th goal in his World Cup career, one goal behind Messi, the current all-time top scorer in the World Cup.
Mbappé managed to make amends for the penalty he missed in the 28th minute, after Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou caught the ball he shot.
Ousmane Dembélé added the second goal for France in the 66th minute, scoring his fifth goal in the current edition of the tournament.
Thus, the French team, world champion in 1998 and 2018, set a date in the semi-finals with the winner of the match between Spain and Belgium.
