France Requests Cancellation of Yellow Card for Olise
The French Football Federation has asked FIFA to cancel the yellow card received by Michael Olise during France's victory over Paraguay in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, according to a source close to the matter, as learned by AFP on Sunday. In stoppage time of a heated match, Uzbek referee Ilgiz Tantashev punished the 24-year-old French playmaker after a confrontation with Paraguay's Matías Galarza, although replays clearly show that Olise did not touch his opponent. The Bayern Munich player put his finger to his lips, then the Paraguayan midfielder fell to the ground pretending to have been hit in the face by the Frenchman, prompting the referee to show him a yellow card. If Olise receives another yellow card in the quarterfinal against Morocco on Thursday in Foxborough, near Boston, he will be suspended if his team advances to the semifinals. Bradley Barcola and Manu Koné, who also received yellow cards against Paraguay, also risk suspension if they are booked again against the Atlas Lions.
