French lawmakers have agreed on a new salary cap for employees and managers of sports federations, including the French Football Federation, which may hinder the anticipated arrival of Zinedine Zidane.

The original proposal set the annual cap at 140,000 euros, approximately 12,000 per month, but after discussions in the joint committee, the cap was raised to 450,000 euros per year, about 37,000 euros per month.

Under the new procedure, any salary exceeding 450,000 euros will require approval from the French Minister of Sports, and the head of the relevant federation will have to request an exemption from the ministry before approving any higher salary.

Both chambers of parliament still need to approve the joint text before it becomes enforceable law through executive decrees.

If adopted, the rule will also apply to the technical director of the French national team. If Zinedine Zidane is appointed with a salary exceeding 450,000 euros, the Minister of Sports will have to approve the exception, and this measure will also give the Ministry of Sports the authority to oversee salary decisions for certain strategic positions within sports federations.

Compared to Didier Deschamps' current salary, it is very low, as the France World Cup coach earns 3.8 million euros annually, i.e., 316,300 euros per month.
