After the plane stopped on the tarmac under tight security, the doors opened and first out was coach De la Fuente alongside captain Rodri, who had the medal around his neck and held the cup in his hands, along with Spanish Football Federation President Rafael Lousán. The heroes are preparing to meet their fans, but they will first head to the Zarzuela Palace to be received by King Felipe VI, then to the La Moncloa Palace where they will meet Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. Afterwards, the players and their coach will tour the streets of central Madrid on an open double-decker bus, expected to arrive around 9 p.m. at the Cibeles Square, seat of Madrid City Council. The Spanish team won their second World Cup title (after the first 16 years ago in South Africa 2010) by defeating Argentina and its star Lionel Messi, the 2022 title holder, with a goal scored by Ferran Torres in extra time after the match ended goalless in regular time.
