(CNN)-- Lionel Messi was not satisfied with his country Argentina's 1-0 loss to Spain at MetLife Stadium on Sunday in the 2026 World Cup final.
After the final whistle, Messi took off his shoes and sat on the field for minutes, with signs of sadness and disappointment on his face.
He was also seen shaking hands and hugging players of the 'Matador' team, as he made sure to congratulate them on winning the title, while the Spanish players wanted to console the 39-year-old.
Messi and his teammates' tally remained at 3 World Cup titles, after the 1978, 1986 and 2022 editions.
Meanwhile, Spain reached its second title in its history in the biggest tournament, after the 2010 edition.
