Lionel Messi, the Argentine star, paid a special tribute to the late legend Diego Armando Maradona, after qualifying for the final of the 2026 World Cup.

After providing two crucial assists in Argentina's 2-1 victory over England in the World Cup semi-final, Messi paid another tribute to Maradona, dedicating this thrilling win to him.

According to Foot Mercato, Messi said: "I am sure that Diego is enjoying this moment from above.. this win is for him; it has always been a very special day."

He continued: "I am happy because I was able to give him this joy, and I sincerely hope he enjoys it."

Messi also spoke about the special relationship he had with the Argentine football legend, saying: "We were lucky to have lived in Diego's era. I did not want to part with him, and I know that he loved me.. I cherish all the beautiful moments we shared."

This is not the first time the World Cup winner has praised Maradona; he previously dedicated Argentina's 2021 Copa América victory to him.
