The Moroccan national football team arrived at Rabat airport on Sunday after finishing its participation in the 2026 World Cup by reaching the quarter-finals.

Anadolu correspondent reported that a number of citizens were welcoming the 'Atlas Lions' team and celebrated their return after their journey in the tournament.

By reaching the quarter-finals, the Moroccan team achieved the best result among the Arabic teams participating in the 2026 edition.

Morocco ended its tournament run after losing 0-2 to France on Thursday in the quarter-finals.

The Moroccan team did not repeat its achievement in the 2022 Qatar edition, when it reached the semi-finals and finished fourth, the best position ever achieved by an African or Arab team.

During the current edition, Morocco drew 1-1 with Brazil, won 1-0 against Scotland, and 4-2 against Haiti.

In the knockout stages, they overcame the Netherlands on penalties in the round of 32, then beat Canada 3-0 in the round of 16, before their run was halted by France.

With 48 teams participating, the 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup kicked off in the United States, Canada, and Mexico on June 11 last and continues until July 19 this month.
