Italian club Roma announced on Saturday the contract extensions of international duo Gianluca Mancini and Bryan Cristante, with three seasons for the former and two for the latter, thus ensuring the stay of two of the oldest players in the first football team of the capital club.

The Giallorossi said in a statement: "Roma is delighted to announce that Bryan Cristante has signed a contract extension with the club until 2028."

It continued: "Since arriving in the capital in the summer of 2018, the midfielder has carved out a long and successful path in the Giallorossi shirt, establishing himself over the years as a key figure both on and off the pitch."

The club followed with another statement saying: "Roma is pleased to announce the renewal of Gianluca Mancini's contract until 2029."

It added: "Since 2019, the defender has made 319 appearances for the Giallorossi and scored 23 goals in all competitions."

Both players have become core elements of Roma over nearly a decade, and both renewals underscore coach Gian Piero Gasperini's desire to build his team around an experienced and established core ahead of the club's return to the UEFA Champions League.

For Mancini, this deal puts an end to a summer full of speculation, as the former Italian defender's contract was set to expire next year, and Inter Milan made significant efforts to sign him as part of their search for reinforcements following the departures of Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij.

Cristante's renewal came due to the urgent need for his efforts given his versatility on the pitch; the midfielder has made 364 appearances and scored 21 goals since arriving in the capital in 2018, a number that places him among the top ten appearance-makers in Roma's history.

The Wolves finished last season in third place in Serie A, securing the team's return to the UEFA Champions League for the first time since the 2018-2019 season, and will begin their new campaign at home against Fiorentina on August 24.
