Colombia Beats Ghana with Arias Strike
The Colombian national football team advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating Ghana 1-0 early Saturday in the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup. John Arias scored Colombia's only goal in the 14th minute from a cross by Luis Suarez, who came on as a substitute for the injured John Doba. Luis Diaz added a second goal for his country in the 56th minute, but the referee disallowed it for offside. Colombia controlled most of the match, with Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi making three dangerous saves. Colombia qualified to face Switzerland in the Round of 16 next Tuesday in Vancouver.
