An alliance of investors led by businessman Amit Bhatia, backed by the Indian Mittal family, is in talks to buy a minority stake in English club Liverpool from Fenway Sports Group. The British newspaper Financial Times reported on Tuesday that sources familiar with the matter said the alliance, led by Bhatia, son-in-law of steel magnate billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, has hired advisors to work on the offer, and intensive talks are underway with Fenway. It added that any deal would value Liverpool at more than six billion dollars, among the highest valuations in football history. This attempt underscores the continued appeal of top English clubs as well as the global reach of the Premier League. For its part, Fenway confirmed to the Financial Times the alliance's interest in injecting a strategic investment into the club in exchange for buying a minority stake.
