Letsch to Lead Al-Shabab
Al-Shabab Club has contracted German Thomas Letsch to coach its first football team for the upcoming period. The capital club announced its move on Friday evening, wishing the new coach success in achieving fans' aspirations, without specifying the contract duration in a statement on its X account. The German has coached 10 teams and did not play professionally, with his coaching career starting in 1997. Letsch, while coaching Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, drew 0-0 with Saudi Al-Hilal last summer during the group stage of the FIFA Club World Cup. With his arrival in the Saudi Roshn League, the number of German coaches in the competition rises to three so far, as Matthias Jaissle continues with Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad hired Pins Vissing. Al-Shabab finished last season in 13th place with 35 points, after playing under Spanish coach Imanol Alguacil and then Algerian Nourredine Zekri. The announcement of the new coach for 'Al-Lioth' came hours after the team's players returned to the club's headquarters to start the preparation program for the upcoming season, and three days after the announcement of the appointment, under the chairmanship of Abdulaziz Al-Malik, of Olivier Renard as the club's sporting director. The administration tasked Renard with 'leading the technical strategy for the football sector and overseeing the development of the technical system,' according to a club statement on Monday. The statement said: 'This appointment comes within the administration's direction to strengthen institutional work, by drawing up an integrated technical strategy that includes developing the technical identity, improving work mechanisms, and building a sustainable system that supports various categories and contributes to achieving the club's aspirations in the short and long term.'
