French star Kylian Mbappe continues to write his impressive numbers in the 2026 World Cup, after scoring his country's goal against Paraguay in the round of 16 match, bringing him closer to the top of the tournament's all-time scorers list.

Mbappe raised his tally to 19 goals in his World Cup appearances, reducing the gap to one goal behind Argentine captain Lionel Messi, the current record holder with 20 goals.

Messi had strengthened his lead in the historical list after scoring a goal in Argentina's 3-2 win over Cape Verde in the round of 32.

In the current edition of the World Cup, Mbappe is tied with Messi at the top of the scorers' chart, after each reached seven goals, intensifying the battle between the two stars as the knockout stages continue.
