(CNN) -- Argentine captain Lionel Messi sent a message to his teammates hours before the World Cup final scheduled for Sunday in New York, United States, against the Spanish national team.

The historic player wrote on his social media accounts: "The titles were never the most beautiful thing in all these years, but the entire journey."

He continued in his post, which he wrote as a comment under a photo of the Argentine team: "Sharing daily life with this group, competing together, rising up in difficult moments, and enjoying every step. Thank you to every one of my teammates, the coaching staff, and everyone who works hard daily to keep the national team strong and united."

Messi continued: "No matter what happens tomorrow, this group has already written a story that will never be forgotten, and no one can erase it."

Messi's teammates face a tough match against Spain, hoping to retain the title after winning it in 2022 in Qatar.

Argentina won the semi-final match against England 2-1.
