Major League Soccer has opened an investigation into Inter Miami, owned by former England star David Beckham, regarding allegations of illegal negotiations following the completion of the signing of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro. The transfer of Casemiro to Inter Miami was announced yesterday, Wednesday, with an initial contract running through 2027, with an option to extend until June 2029, subject to obtaining a visa. But shortly after the announcement, the league confirmed that an investigation is ongoing with the MLS Cup holders.

A league statement said: "Major League Soccer is reviewing an allegation of illegal negotiations against Inter Miami CF. The league is gathering relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete."

Regulations allow clubs to add up to five players to a list to obtain discovery priority. Casemiro, a former Real Madrid and Manchester United player aged 34, was on the LA Galaxy's list. Despite that, the Brazilian international, who became a free agent after his contract at Old Trafford ended at the end of last season, decided to sign with Inter Miami to play alongside Argentine star Lionel Messi. LA Galaxy said in a statement: "LA Galaxy and Inter Miami have reached a settlement regarding the discovery priority for Casemiro, and terms will be announced following the conclusion of the ongoing investigation into illegal negotiations by Major League Soccer."

Casemiro has a decorated career, winning the UEFA Champions League five times with Real Madrid, and winning the League Cup and FA Cup with Manchester United.
