Morocco strengthened its historical World Cup record with a resounding 3-0 victory over Canada on Saturday evening at the Houston stadium in the United States, in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

With this result, Morocco increased its tally to 4 wins in knockout rounds throughout its World Cup history, which equals half of the wins of all African teams in these stages of the tournament (8).

Morocco also became the first team from outside Europe and South America to reach the quarterfinals in two consecutive World Cup editions, repeating its historic achievement from the 2022 World Cup.

Azeddine Ounahi scored a brace for Morocco against Canada in the 50th and 82nd minutes, before Sofyan Rahimi added the third goal in the 90+8th minute, setting up a quarterfinal clash for the Atlas Lions with the winner of France vs Paraguay.
