Morocco's Star: 'This Is Not the End We Aspired To'
Ayoub Amaimoun, a player for the Moroccan national team, was keen to send an emotional message to the fans after the end of the 'Atlas Lions' journey in the 2026 World Cup, expressing his pride in representing his country, and affirming that the elimination will not stop the team's ambitions in the future.
The journey of head coach Mohamed Wahbi in the World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, ended in the quarter-finals, where they lost to France by two clean goals scored by Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé.
Amaimoun, 21 years old, wrote on his Instagram account today, Saturday: 'Our journey in the World Cup has ended at this stage. Of course we feel disappointed, but I am very proud to have been part of this team, and grateful to wear my national team jersey.'
The Eintracht Frankfurt player added: 'Thank you to everyone who supported us, whether in the stands or behind screens.'
He concluded by saying: 'This is not the end we aspired to, but we will learn, develop, and continue working. Always Morocco.'
