Neville: I get goosebumps watching Bellingham.. I've never seen an English player like him
Gary Neville, former Manchester United and England star, praised Jude Bellingham's performance with the Three Lions in the 2026 World Cup, emphasizing that he has never seen anything like it before for his national team.
Bellingham scored both goals in England's 2-1 victory over Norway in the World Cup quarter-final, thus securing a semi-final clash with Argentina next Wednesday.
Neville believes the Real Madrid midfielder has elevated his game to another level.
Neville told Sky Sports: "His performance was absolutely incredible. Honestly, I get goosebumps when I see a performance like this. I don't think I've ever seen an English player have such an impact in a tournament like this."
He added: "I was with Gazza (Paul Gascoigne) in 1996, with Wayne Rooney in 2004, and with Michael Owen in 1998. I watched those matches live, and I've never seen anything like this. It's exceptional in every sense of the word, and at the highest level."
He continued: "This is not England's next star. This is England's current star. This is happening right now. You need to realize that this will clearly change the game."
He noted: "You're playing in the World Cup. You've scored six goals. You've been amazing in every sense, both in attack and defense. You've almost single-handedly guided your team to safety, with support from Harry Kane."
He went on: "My daughters love football. They're 16 and 17 years old. They adore him. He's a hero. Every child in England watching the World Cup now imagines themselves as Jude Bellingham."
He added: "The impact he has on young people in our country, and on young people around the world in this country we're living in, in the United States, is truly fantastic."
He continued: "There comes a time in your career where you either perform excellently at the highest level or you don't, and your legacy will be defined by that. That's why great players remain great."
He explained: "Everyone is looking at him. Everyone is asking if he is world-class. Even I, before this tournament started, thought Harry Kane was our only true world-class player, and that we had Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham who were a slightly lower level, to the point where we thought: 'No, you need to do more. You still have a lot to do.'"
He continued: "He went and did it. He went and climbed that extra step, which represents a huge step towards that world-class mountain."
He added: "I was talking to Roy Keane and Ian Wright after last night's match and they said that right now, if you're watching football, you're watching the best midfielder in the world, and that's not because he scores goals, by the way."
He concluded: "We don't tend to overpraise goals. We know we need them, but it's the other aspects surrounding them that make the complete player who gives him the edge."
