German football legend Lothar Matthäus has made his predictions for the two World Cup 2026 semifinal matches.

France will face Spain on Tuesday, while Argentina will play England on Wednesday in the semifinals. Matthäus expects the match between England and Messi's teammates to be very close.

Matthäus said on his program 'Lothar starts' on Bild: 'Both teams have already shown their weaknesses. The English did not perform exceptionally against Norway, and Thomas Tuchel was also not satisfied.'

For Matthäus, this match will be very exciting, and he said: 'I feel it will be decided by a 6-5 penalty shootout.'

He continued: 'Argentina will win because I trust goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez more than I trust England.'

Matthäus is betting on France reaching the second semifinal.

He continued: 'This was Germany's path, to the semifinal or even the final. This was my dream before the World Cup. My realistic dream.'

The 1990 World Cup winner believes that the French team is the favorite to beat Spain.

He affirmed: 'I have become a fan of France recently. Not only because of their creativity and speed in attack, but simply because they are enjoyable to watch.'

Matthäus acknowledged Spain's steady development, but ultimately predicted a 2-1 victory for France.

According to Matthäus, this means the World Cup final will be between Argentina and France.
