Mexican national team goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa announced his retirement from the game on Wednesday, bringing the curtain down on a career that spanned more than two decades. The 41-year-old goalkeeper confirmed his decision via his social media accounts after his participation in his sixth World Cup. Ochoa came on as a substitute in the last 12 minutes of a match Mexico won 2-0 against the Czech Republic, enjoying applause from fans at the Azteca Stadium, the stadium that witnessed his debut with the first team of Club America in 2004. Ochoa wrote on social media: 'I gave my all, I didn't spare a single drop of sweat on the pitch for the clubs I played for and the national team. Today I hang up my gloves.' He added: 'Being a goalkeeper means realizing that you may wait 90 minutes for a single moment on which everything depends. And when that moment comes, you cannot hesitate.' Ochoa represented Mexico for the first time at the World Cup during the 2006 Germany tournament, and continued to appear in the editions of South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, Russia 2018, and Qatar 2022. At the club level, Ochoa had a rich career spanning 22 years, during which he played in France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, and Portugal.
