(CNN)-- The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced Saturday on its X account the death of South African national team player Jayden Adams.

CAF wrote: 'Football has lost one of its sons, may God have mercy on you, Jayden Adams.'

The African football body did not specify the cause of death, but he passed away about two weeks after participating in the 2026 World Cup.

Jayden Adams, 25, played for his country in three matches in the group stage of the World Cup, against Czech Republic, Mexico, and South Korea.

He was a player for the South African club Mamelodi Sundowns, with whom he won the CAF Champions League title for the 2025/2026 season.
