Newcastle United officially announced on Friday the completion of the signing of Frenchman Aladji Bamba for the first team, coming from Monaco, on a five-year contract worth $40 million, with Monaco receiving a percentage of any future transfer. Bamba, 20, Newcastle's fourth signing this summer, said: 'I was very excited when I heard that Newcastle was interested in signing me. I know the club's history and I have visited the amazing stadium. I look forward to stepping onto the pitch there and hope to have great times with the fans.' The French player added: 'I am excited to test myself in a new league, the biggest league in the world. I learned a lot last season, and I now feel ready for this new opportunity. I will give my all for this club.' Newcastle manager Eddie Howe welcomed Bamba's signing, saying: 'Another exciting young talent we are really looking forward to working with. Aladji adds depth and a range of attributes to our midfield options, with huge potential to develop. His development since emerging at Monaco has been impressive, and that is something we believe we can help him build on.' Newcastle finished last season in 12th place in the Premier League. Bamba joined Monaco in 2021 and played only 25 matches, including 18 in Ligue 1, two in the French Cup, and five in the Champions League. Monaco finished last season in fifth place in Ligue 1.
