Official: Referee Al-Sultan Retires Following Al-Ahli Accusation
Referee Abdulrahman Al-Sultan submitted an official resignation letter to the main refereeing committee of the Saudi Football Federation, ending a career that spanned nearly 18 years, according to special sources from Al-Riyadiya. Al-Sultan (39) had been in the spotlight last season after being accused by Al-Ahli while serving as the fourth official in his team's match against Al-Fayha, in the 29th round of the Saudi Roshn League, which ended 1-1, of telling his players: 'Focus on the Asian championship.' However, the main refereeing committee found no evidence to convict Al-Sultan after reviewing the audio recordings of the match. Al-Sultan progressed through various refereeing grades during his career before obtaining the international badge in 2017. His career was not limited to on-field refereeing, as he obtained a master's degree in football business management and sports management. According to the same sources, Al-Sultan is expected to start a new phase in administrative, technical, or academic work in football.
