Officially: Slovenian Slavko Vinčić to referee 2026 World Cup final
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced the appointment of Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić to officiate the final match of the 2026 World Cup, which brings together the defending champions Argentina and European champions Spain 2024, on Sunday, July 19.
FIFA entrusted the match to an all-Slovenian refereeing crew, led by Slavko Vinčić, assisted by his compatriots Tomaž Klančnik and Andraž Kovačić as assistant referees.
Jordanian referee Adham Makhadmeh was also appointed as the fourth official, while his compatriot Mohammad Al-Khaf will serve as the reserve assistant referee.
Slavko Vinčić, 46 years old, enters the World Cup final after officiating three matches in the current edition of the tournament.
Among his most notable matches was leading the Argentina vs. Algeria group stage encounter, which ended with a 3-0 victory for the Argentine national team.
He also officiated the Morocco vs. Brazil match in the first round of Group C, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
In the knockout stages, he took charge of the Mexico vs. Ecuador round of 32 match, which Mexico won to secure a spot in the round of 16.
