Portuguese Pedro Gonçalves Appointed Coach of Royal Armed Forces
The Moroccan Royal Armed Forces officially announced the signing of Portuguese coach Pedro Gonçalves to take over the technical leadership of the first team, on a two-season contract, succeeding his compatriot Alexandre Santos.
Gonçalves arrives at the Royal Armed Forces after a diverse coaching career within the African continent, which began with several years of work at the Portuguese Sporting Lisbon academy, before taking over the supervision of the Angolan Primeiro de Agosto academy, then achieving remarkable successes with the youth national teams in Angola.
The Portuguese coach led the Angola U-17 national team, before taking charge of the U-20 youth team, where he contributed to writing a distinguished page in the history of Angolan football through the results he achieved with the national teams.
He also had an experience with Tanzanian Young Africans, and despite his departure before the end of last season, he contributed to the team winning the Tanzanian Premier League title, along with winning the Mapinduzi Cup.
Gonçalves now begins a new challenge with one of the biggest clubs in Morocco and Africa, as the Royal Armed Forces boast a rich record of achievements, including one CAF Champions League title, 13 Moroccan league championships, in addition to 12 Throne Cup titles.
The importance of this step is not limited to the historical status of the club, but also extends to the football environment in which he works. Morocco is considered one of the most prominent football powers in the African continent, given the significant investments in the football sector in recent years, along with the ongoing preparations to host the 2030 World Cup in partnership with Spain and Portugal.
It is worth noting that the Royal Armed Forces finished last season of the Moroccan league in fourth place with 55 points, while Maghreb Fez won the title.
