The French national team and its coach Didier Deschamps bid farewell to the 2026 World Cup in a painful scenario, losing 4-6 to England in the third-place match.

Metro newspaper reported that Ryan Cherki, the star of Les Bleus, rebelled again against his coach Deschamps during the match against the Three Lions.

Cherki received his first start in the World Cup from Deschamps, but the Manchester City midfielder performed poorly before being substituted in the first half for Ousmane Dembélé.

During a water break in the first half, Deschamps was seen giving sharp instructions to Cherki as he approached the touchline, but the City star responded by waving his hand and turning his back on the French coach before walking away.

When asked about Cherki's behavior towards him during the water break, Deschamps said after the match, "I won't settle scores today."

He continued, "The players know that perfectly. I won't point fingers at anyone. However, I always tell them, and as Kylian Mbappé said, they needed time to process it, but the mistake was mine. I should have made different choices from the start of the match. You can say that, and maybe things would have gone better."

He added, "Everyone is judged on their performance. It's clear that some players could have performed better. I wish them all the best."

Ryan Cherki and Deschamps had a previous disagreement in the World Cup, when the City midfielder appeared to ignore his coach after coming on as a late substitute in France's win over Sweden in the Round of 32.
