The German Football Association announced its contract with veteran coach Jurgen Klopp to lead the national team in the 2028 European Championship and 2030 World Cup.
Klopp had spent the past year and a half in an administrative role at Red Bull before accepting the national team job.
The contract was signed in Frankfurt with the 59-year-old coach, who achieved remarkable success with both Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.
Klopp will succeed Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned on July 3 of this year after Germany's surprising elimination from the round of 32 in the 2026 World Cup by Paraguay.
In the press conference following the announcement, Klopp issued a stern warning to fans and the media that he 'will leave if they target his family'.
Klopp told the fans at the press conference: 'I am not doing this job for myself,' he continued, 'I am doing it for you. I will take on this task even though I saw how you treated Julian Nagelsmann, and even though I saw how you treated Thomas Tuchel.'
The German coach added: 'If you target my family, I will leave. And if you see me as useless, tell me to my face, and I will leave immediately without demanding any compensation.'
Klopp added: 'The national team can bring us Germans together in a way that almost no other means can,' and continued, 'And that is exactly what makes this task so special for me; I am grateful for everything I experienced and learned during the past year and a half at Red Bull.'
The German coach said: 'I am now looking forward to this special task in German football, which we will tackle together with humility and patience: building a team where players fight for each other, enjoy football, and are fully embraced by our countrymen.'
Klopp will be able to begin rebuilding the national team before the start of the UEFA Nations League in September, where his first match in charge will be away against the Netherlands.
Klopp is considered one of the most prominent coaches in German football history, leading Borussia Dortmund to the league title and to the Champions League final. He also achieved remarkable success with Liverpool, winning the Champions League and the English Premier League. His appointment comes at a time when the national team needs rebuilding after the disappointment of the 2026 World Cup. Klopp faces a major challenge in restoring fan confidence and achieving positive results at Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup.
