Rudi Garcia: We will play with spirit and heart to defeat Spain.. and we will not settle for defense
Belgium coach Rudi Garcia says his team will rely on spirit and heart to beat Spain in the World Cup quarterfinal, emphasizing they won't just defend.
Rudi Garcia, Belgium's coach, confirmed that he has a plan based on spirit, life, and heart to beat Spain in the World Cup quarterfinal, stressing that relying solely on defense will lead to his team's elimination.
Garcia explained, according to what was published by the Spanish newspaper Marca, that the Spanish team his side will face is stronger than Belgium, acknowledging that although many believe his team will be eliminated, he has full confidence in reaching the semifinals.
The Belgium coach said in the press conference: "We are in the quarterfinals, and Spain is one of the strong favorites to win the title, and we know well the individual and collective abilities they have as a system, they are very strong in controlling possession and have a great personality. We will not settle for defense only, because if we do that we will be eliminated. We are capable of scoring goals and we have proven that, and we have our own talents. Many see that we will leave, but I trust my group a lot and that we will be in the semifinals."
The Belgium coach continued his statements, saying: 'We are facing a stronger team than us, but we will defend ourselves with spirit and heart in order to continue moving forward.'
Rudi Garcia pointed out that his team will not experience more difficult circumstances than what they faced in the round of 16, where Belgium qualified for the quarterfinals after eliminating the United States in a match that included the cancellation of a red card penalty for player Folarin Balogun so that he could play the match, following a phone call from US President Donald Trump.
The technical director of the Belgian team added in the same context, saying: 'We will not go through more difficult circumstances than what we experienced in the round of 16. A few days ago we had 12 million fans, and now we have a much larger number.'
The Belgium coach praised the influential role of the team's all-time top scorer Romelu Lukaku as a substitute trump card, stressing that he instills fear and affects the opponent as soon as he steps onto the field. At the same time, he revealed the readiness of star Kevin De Bruyne to play the match against Spain, after missing the match against the United States due to some pains.
Rudi Garcia concluded his remarks by saying: 'All players are in good physical condition, except Amadou Onana, whose absence represents a huge loss for us. I have two lineups: the lineup that will start the match and the one that will finish the match, and I certainly have a clear plan.'
