English star Bukayo Saka shone, scoring a hat-trick in the 6-4 victory over France in the 2026 World Cup third-place match.

Saka scored the third and fourth goals for England in the 37th and 45+1 minutes, before netting his personal third from a penalty in the 87th minute.

Stats Foot reported that Saka became the first player to score a hat-trick against France in all competitions since Geoff Hurst did so for England in a friendly on March 12, 1969.

The French network added: 'Saka also became the second player to score a hat-trick against Les Bleus in the World Cup, after legend Pelé did so for Brazil on June 24, 1958.'

Squawka reported that only four players have previously scored a hat-trick for England in the World Cup: Geoff Hurst (1966), Gary Lineker (1986), Harry Kane (2018), and Bukayo Saka (2026).
