Argentine Lionel Scaloni, head coach of the national football team, wrote his name on Wednesday in a limited list of coaches distinguished by reaching the World Cup final more than once. Scaloni became the seventh to do so, after leading his team to a 2-1 victory over England in the semifinals in Atlanta, USA, qualifying for the 2026 final scheduled for Sunday against Spain. Thus, the 'Tango dancers' coach equaled what only six coaches have achieved since the tournament's inception in 1930, and could become, if he defeats the Spaniards, only the second coach to win the title twice, after Italian Vittorio Pozzo, champion of the second and third editions in 1934 and 1938 with his national team. At the end of 2022, Scaloni celebrated with his players winning the World Cup, after defeating France in the final on penalties. Alongside the Argentine and Italian coaches are 5 coaches with their national teams: German Helmut Schön 1966 and 1974, Argentine Carlos Bilardo 1986 and 1990, German Franz Beckenbauer 1986 and 1990, French Didier Deschamps 2018 and 2022, and Brazilian Mario Zagallo 1970 and 1998.
