Spain qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup after a 1-0 victory over Portugal in a match held this evening in Arlington near Dallas, in what could be the last international appearance for Portuguese captain Cristiano Ronaldo.

Substitute Mikel Merino dealt a knockout blow to Portugal when he scored the winning goal six minutes after coming on, specifically in the 90+1 minute.

It is worth noting that the Spanish team qualifies for the World Cup quarterfinals for the sixth time in its history.

Spain will face in the next round the winner between the United States and Belgium, who play later on Monday.
