Special mat.. and fears of risk

With the 2026 World Cup final approaching, pressure is mounting on the Spanish national team amid doubts about two of La Roja's stars ahead of Sunday's clash with Argentina.

The medical staff of the Spanish national team paid close attention to both Lamine Yamal and Pedro Boro after overcoming France in the semi-final.

According to Sport newspaper, "The technical and medical staff of the Spanish national team preferred to adopt a cautious approach with Lamine Yamal before the 2026 World Cup final, given the great physical effort the player has made throughout the tournament, while emphasizing his readiness for the upcoming match against Argentina."

The Barcelona winger took part in Thursday's training session away from the group alongside Pedro Boro at the Red Bull training center in New York.

Yamal is having a distinguished tournament despite arriving at the World Cup after recovering from an injury, having played in all of Spain's matches and made a huge effort to help his country.

With fatigue accumulating, the medical staff of the Spanish federation is handling the player with extreme caution and avoiding taking any risks.

Yamal started the training session with his teammates before leaving during the possession drills (rondo) and moving to work on a special mat, where he performed stretching exercises and an individual program, focusing entirely on Sunday's final in New Jersey.

The report confirmed that the player will be fully ready to play the final match against Argentina, in which Spain aims to win its second world title, noting that Yamal has great enthusiasm and a strong desire to win the World Cup.

Pedro Boro's condition does not appear to be concerning either; he is suffering from fatigue in the hamstring muscles but will be available to participate in the final.

The report pointed out that the same caution applies to Boro, who was named Man of the Match in the semi-final against France, as the coaching staff prefers not to take risks with a player who is in a distinguished period performance-wise.

Coach Luis de la Fuente approached Yamal and Pedro Boro to speak calmly before focusing on the remaining 24 players in training.

The training session featured a dedicated fitness recovery program, as the players who did not play against France did more intense drills, while the starters only did light exercises.
