Borja Iglesias, the Spanish national team striker, sparked controversy ahead of the 2026 World Cup final, after attacking the record high prices for tickets to the highly anticipated match against Argentina.

The Spanish and Argentine national teams are preparing for the World Cup final this Sunday evening at MetLife Stadium.

In an Instagram story, Iglesias posted a picture showing the circulating prices for match tickets, and accompanied it with a brief comment saying: 'Disgrace,' according to AS newspaper.

The Spain striker's message came amid a wave of widespread criticism of the final ticket prices, after all tickets offered through FIFA's official website were sold out, while prices for available tickets on resale platforms jumped to unprecedented levels.

According to StubHub, one of the largest ticket-selling platforms in the United States, the cheapest available ticket in the upper stands behind the goal at MetLife Stadium was 7,125 euros, while some seats near the touchline reached 83,639 euros.

Data from TickPick, cited by Forbes magazine, indicated that the average price of a final ticket is around 9,900 euros, making the 2026 World Cup final the most expensive in history, surpassing the average ticket prices for the Super Bowl (8,225 euros) and the NBA Finals (5,513 euros).

The high prices sparked criticism from officials and fans, as the president of the Spanish Football Federation, Rafael Lozán, described the pricing policy as 'unacceptable,' while US President Donald Trump earlier said he would like to attend the match, but 'would not pay that amount' for a ticket.
