The Spanish national team ended the first half of their match against France on Tuesday evening in the World Cup semi-final, leading by a goal to nil.

La Roja earned a penalty, which was successfully converted by Mikel Oyarzabal in the 22nd minute.

Stats Foot reported that the French national team fell behind for the first time in their campaign in the 2026 World Cup finals.

It noted: "The French national team had not conceded a goal in a World Cup semi-final match since Croatia's goal in the 1998 edition, before their net was rattled in the current match against Spain."

It added: "France has become the team that has suffered the most penalties against them in World Cup history, with 16 penalties."
