Bold headlines, and other words of praise, of which the Spanish press could not find enough on Monday to celebrate the achievement of their national team in the World Cup final against Argentina. For the sports newspaper Marca, the “La Roja” players are simply “Kings of all time”, celebrating “the second star that will be embroidered on the Spanish shirt after a new display of collective play”. As for the other sports newspaper, AS, it considered that this coronation recalls the first title achieved in 2010, so its headline read: “Like the first time”. It also noted that “No country has ever won both the women's and men's world titles at the same time”. The Spanish women's team had won the world title in 2023. The Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia wrote: “Spain rules the world, a reality that its football had already reflected, and the World Cup came to confirm it. The second star is already making its way to the peninsula to settle on the chest of a magnificent team that includes a new hero.” The newspaper highlighted the goal scorer Ferran Torres, saying he “opens the doors of immortality”. As for ABC, which added two stars to its headline for the occasion, it found only one word to describe the situation: “Invincible”. El País considered that “Spain enters the realm of immortality with this second world title at the expense of the defending champion, whose threat was reduced almost to nothing.” The newspaper added that Argentina “did not take any shot before La Roja's goal, an unprecedented occurrence. No team had ever completed 90 minutes of a World Cup final without attempting a shot. Nor did any team do so until the 117th minute.” For El País, “The performance of Luis de la Fuente's team dismantled Argentina led by legendary number 10 Lionel Messi, exhausted them with their style of play, and pricked them with a series of shots, before finally finishing them off with his left foot. Messi bid farewell in the World Cup to an exceptional collective performance.”
