The Saudi Arabian tennis team qualified for the second World Play-off of the 2027 Davis Cup after defeating Singapore 2-0 on Saturday in a promotion decider within the Group III Asia/Oceania competition, held in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.

Brothers Ammar and Saud Alhaqbani secured the qualification ticket for the Saudi team, each winning in singles, giving the 'Green' an insurmountable lead without needing to play the doubles match.

Saud began his match against Jaiden Diwandaqa Tan by losing the first set 3-6, after having his serve broken twice, before recovering impressively, winning nine of the last ten games, to clinch the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

In the second match, Ammar faced Singaporean player Bill Chan, formerly ranked among the top 100 junior players globally, who is preparing to join Harvard University to continue his athletic and academic career. Ammar lost the first set 2-6 before coming back strongly, leveraging his extensive Davis Cup experience, to overturn the result and win 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

This victory is Ammar Alhaqbani's 44th win wearing the Saudi national team jersey in the Davis Cup, and also secured Saudi Arabia's qualification to the second World Play-off, alongside Iran and Jordan, who had already booked their qualification spots from the group competition.

The Saudi team had finished second in its group behind Iran, then played the play-off against Singapore and successfully secured victory to advance to the next stage.
