Spain's national team is close to ousting a third coach from leading his country, after defeating him in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Belgium bid farewell to the 2026 World Cup in the quarterfinals, after a 2-1 defeat to Spain on Friday at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, USA.

Hours after the match, the French website Foot Mercato prepared a report stating that coach Rudi Garcia is close to leaving Belgium after the 2026 World Cup, despite having achieved what was required of him.

When the French coach took over in January 2025, the Belgian federation asked him to keep the team in the top tier of the UEFA Nations League and to qualify for the World Cup quarterfinals.

Despite achieving both goals, the website speculated about his departure, especially since his contract officially ends at the end of the World Cup, with no move from the Belgian Football Federation to renew it so far.

Foot Mercato explained that the reason may also be due to Rudi Garcia himself, as he does not seem keen to stay for an additional period, after encountering some problems during his tenure, whether with the medical staff or the players.

If he leaves, Rudi Garcia would be the third coach to step down after losing to Spain, following Argentina's Marcelo Bielsa in Uruguay and Spain's Roberto Martinez in Portugal.
