Umar Kremlev Announces Launch of RAF Russia Professional Freestyle Wrestling Championship in Moscow Next September
President of the International Boxing Association Umar Kremlev, also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Wrestling Federation, announced the launch of the first RAF Russia Professional Freestyle Wrestling Championship, scheduled to be held in the Russian capital Moscow on September 5, as part of a partnership with the Real American Freestyle (RAF) league.
The announcement was made during a press conference held in the Georgian capital Tbilisi, on the eve of the RAF Georgia championship, in the presence of CEO and co-founder of the league Chad Bronstein, and a number of wrestling officials.
Kremlev stressed that the upcoming championship will bring together an elite group of the world's top wrestlers and will be held according to the highest organizational standards, noting that the partnership represents a new milestone in the league's journey with its launch in Russia, opening broader horizons for wrestlers to compete at the highest professional levels, in addition to providing prize money that reflects the value of their sporting achievements.
He explained that wrestling has a rich history and a wide fan base, affirming that cooperation with the RAF league will contribute to presenting professional competitions that bring together the best wrestlers on a global platform, keeping pace with the development of the sport and its expanding international presence.
For his part, CEO and co-founder of the RAF league Chad Bronstein confirmed that the choice of Moscow to host the championship stems from its historical status in the sport of wrestling and its great legacy in producing champions, noting that the event represents an important milestone in the league's plan for international expansion.
In turn, COO and co-founder of the league Easy Martinez explained that the competition in Moscow holds great value for wrestlers, given the city's established place in the history of the sport, stressing that the league continues to attract elite wrestlers from around the world to participate in its championships.
The Real American Freestyle (RAF) championship is one of the most prominent professional freestyle wrestling tournaments in the world, bringing together an elite of world champions, Olympic champions, and top combat sports stars in competitions based on a professional system that gives athletes opportunities to compete for large prize money, in addition to broadcasting the tournaments to a global audience.
Tbilisi Arena in Georgia is set to host today the league's first championship outside North America, with the evening headlined by a clash between former UFC champions Merab Dvalishvili and Henry Cejudo, in addition to a bout featuring Russian Olympic champion Abdulrashid Sadulaev and his American counterpart Kyle Snyder.
The Moscow championship, scheduled for September 5, represents one of the league's international stops, as part of its plans for global expansion, with details of the official card and venue to be announced later.
