(CNN) -- Algeria's journey in the 2026 World Cup, held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, ended in the round of 32.

The 'Desert Warriors' were eliminated by Switzerland, who defeated them 2-0 at BC Place on Friday.

Algeria is the sixth Arab team to exit the tournament, following Qatar, Tunisia, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq, who had all been eliminated in the group stage.

After the match against Switzerland, signs of sadness and disappointment were evident on the faces of the 'Desert Warriors' players, who then shook hands and hugged each other.

Swiss players were also seen shaking hands, hugging, and speaking with the Algerian players, offering them support and consolation.

Afterwards, before leaving the pitch, the Algerian players approached their supporters in the stands and saluted them as a gesture of apology after exiting the world's biggest tournament.
