On March 20, 1994, Senegalese Alexandre Mendy, the new striker of Al-Faisaly's first football team, was born in the French city of Toulon, and grew up in a stimulating football environment, emerging from a family that produced prominent names in the world of the game. He is the cousin of Bafétimbi Gomis, former Al-Hilal player, and Nampalys Mendy, current Watford player. Mendy has a height of 1.84 meters and a strong physique, giving him significant presence inside the penalty area. His talent appeared early in French academies, and he received his first sports basics in youth categories, and progressed until he was spotted by scouts of French club Nice, which gave the player the opportunity to be in the reserve team in 2013, honing his early scoring abilities. The journey of individual self-assertion began through a series of consecutive loans to gain experience and regular playing time. In January 2014, he moved to Strasbourg in the amateur league, where he scored six goals in 13 matches, followed by another loan in September 2014 with Nîmes Olympique in the second division, where he played his first full professional matches. There, the striker achieved his most important accomplishments, being crowned top scorer of the French Ligue 2 in the 2023-2024 season, and was selected in the league's Team of the Year. On October 29, 2024, he entered Caen's history as the club's all-time top scorer after scoring his 70th goal, surpassing the previous record held by Cyrille Watier. Internationally, he chose to represent the Guinea-Bissau national team due to his family roots belonging to Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, and several African countries. The 32-year-old spent the 2025-2026 season with Montpellier in the second division, scoring 15 goals in 37 matches across all competitions. In Saudi Arabia, Mendy dreams of replicating the brilliance of his relative Gomis, who dominated with Al-Hilal a few seasons ago, something the player coming from France hopes to repeat with Al-Faisaly.
