World Cup: Toney joins the list of 24
Englishman Ivan Toney, striker of Al-Ahli first football team, joined 24 players from the Saudi Roshn League appearing in the 2026 World Cup, after his participation on Wednesday during the 2-1 loss to Argentina in the semi-finals. Moroccan Yassine Bounou, Al-Hilal goalkeeper, leads the league’s players in appearances after playing all six matches of his national team with a total of 570 minutes, leading them to the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, Al-Qadsiah striker Julian Quiñones stood out as the Roshn League player with the most goal contributions, scoring four goals and assisting another with the Mexican national team before exiting in the round of 16, while Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo managed to score three goals with the Portuguese national team in five matches playing 441 minutes, before his team exited the competition in the round of 16. Al-Hilal was also the most represented in the advanced rounds, after Frenchman Theo Hernández reached the semi-finals with France, alongside Yassine Bounou who reached the quarter-finals, while Portuguese João Cancelo, Al-Hilal full-back who was on loan to Barcelona last season, played five matches with a total of 314 minutes and made one assist, and his compatriot and club teammate Rúben Neves appeared in two matches with a total of 54 minutes. Ronaldo was accompanied in Portugal by João Félix, his Al-Nassr teammate, who participated in three matches with a total of 204 minutes, while Sadio Mané played four matches with Senegal with a total of 364 minutes before exiting in the round of 32. From Al-Ahli, Englishman Ivan Toney reached the semi-finals with his national team despite playing only four minutes against France in the semi-finals before his team departed, while Franck Kessié, Al-Ahli player, played 347 minutes with Ivory Coast, Riyad Mahrez participated in 263 minutes with Algeria, goalkeeper Édouard Mendy played 153 minutes with Senegal, defender Roger Ibañez played 45 minutes with Brazil, and Merih Demiral played two matches with Turkey for a total of 180 minutes. As for Al-Ittihad, it saw the participation of Houssem Aouar with Algeria in three matches for a total of 173 minutes, while Fabinho played three matches with Brazil for 71 minutes. Al-Ettifaq had defender Jack Hendry, who played almost all of Scotland's three matches for a total of 270 minutes, while Darwin Núñez played three matches with Uruguay for a total of 155 minutes before exiting in the group stage. Al-Fateh also had a presence through Moroccan Marwan Saâdane, who played only three minutes with Morocco, while Al-Fayha goalkeeper Orlando Mosquera played all three of Panama's matches for a total of 270 minutes, Ali Jassim played with Iraq in two matches for 131 minutes, Ali Al-Azaizeh with Jordan in three matches for 52 minutes, and Jurien Gaari with Curaçao in two matches for 67 minutes. In contrast, the duo of Bonsu Baah, Al-Qadsiah player, with Ghana, and Nabil Dunga, Al-Najma player, with Egypt, did not get any playing time throughout the tournament, making them the only Roshn League professionals who ended their participation without appearing on the pitch.
