Xavi Breaks Silence and Reveals His Next Coaching Destination
Xavi Hernandez, who has been unemployed since leaving Barcelona in 2024, broke his long silence and openly declared his desire to coach a national team, stressing that the next challenge in his career will be away from clubs and closer to major continental tournaments.
In an interview with radio station "RNE Deportes" this Saturday, the 2010 World Cup winner said very clearly: "I want to join a national team, yes. I say it openly," a statement that is considered the first of its kind since his departure from Barça two years ago.
Xavi, 46, did not specify a particular destination, affirming his openness to all options: "I am excited to take part in the World Cup, the European Championship, the Africa Cup of Nations, or even the Asian Cup," noting that the only criterion is "a good project that allows us to work in a calm and comfortable atmosphere."
The former midfielder justified his preference for working with national teams over clubs due to his family circumstances, saying: "Club life does not allow me to spend much time with my family," referring to his desire to balance his professional ambitions with his responsibilities towards his young children.
Xavi has remained out of the spotlight since ending his tenure with Barcelona after three seasons at Camp Nou, where indications about his next destination were scarce throughout the past two years, before he made these surprising statements.
Although Xavi did not rule out any continent, his future seems far from Spain, which is preparing to face Argentina in the World Cup final on Sunday evening under the leadership of Luis de la Fuente, meaning that the Spanish national team is not among his current options.
Xavi's statements open the door to widespread speculation about which national teams might seek his services, especially those looking for a coach with international experience and a clear football philosophy, capable of leading them in major continental and global tournaments.
