Yakin erupts in anger: 'Refereeing ruined our plan'
Murat Yakin, the head coach of the Swiss national team, launched a scathing and violent attack on the officiating crew and VAR technology after his country's exit in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup at the hands of Argentina, insisting that the refereeing decisions completely ruined his team's plan and changed the course of the knockout match.
In fiery remarks after the match, Yakin expressed his strong dissatisfaction, saying: 'The referee's mistake punished us and completely ruined our plan, and there was no justification for that yellow card, which I don't understand.' He added, denouncing the neglect of a decisive incident: 'The decision is simply unbelievable; there was clear contact, and I don't understand how the referee and the VAR room reached that conclusion.'

The Swiss coach continued, pointing to the lack of fairness in the marathon clash: 'Switzerland had the right to feel wronged; Argentina is undoubtedly a great team, but matches of such crucial importance should not be decided by controversial refereeing decisions.'
Yakin concluded his remarks with a tone of clear regret: 'We were punished for a mistake, and that was the decisive moment in the result. Both teams played real football, but football did not win today. Now we can complain, but I have nothing left but to congratulate Argentina, and I do not want to dwell on this subject any further.'
