Geneva, 22 Muharram 1448 AH corresponding to July 7, 2026, SPA — Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP), is participating in the 68th series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), held at its headquarters in Geneva during July of this year. The delegation is headed by the CEO of SAIP, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Suwailam, with the participation of several authority officials. This year's participation comes after SAIP achieved a number of accomplishments on the international stage, by strengthening its presence in various committees and assemblies, in addition to its preparations to implement several side events to enhance its international presence during the General Assembly meetings, reflecting Saudi Arabia's role in promoting and leading international cooperation. During Saudi Arabia's speech delivered by CEO Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Suwailam, attention was drawn to the legislative and operational leaps achieved by the intellectual property system in the Kingdom, including the adoption of the Geographical Indications Protection Law and the updating of the Copyright Law to keep pace with the era of artificial intelligence and the digital economy. These efforts resulted in a leap in performance indicators, with patent applications growing by 28%, trademark applications by 23%, and SAIP achieving a 98.4% rate in the comprehensive quality index. The Kingdom also focused in its speech on joining treaties, by depositing instruments of accession to the Riyadh Design Law Treaty and the Madrid Protocol, in addition to launching a qualitative initiative titled "Intellectual Property and Sports" in cooperation with WIPO to support sports investment, and continuing support for developing countries through the Saudi Trust Fund (SAFIT), along with the Kingdom's celebration of examiners on November 11, an initiative coinciding with the issuance of a guiding manual on the ethics of the examiner profession. SAIP, through its membership in the organization and its annual participation, is keen to be at the heart of the international event to keep pace with the latest practices and legislation, positively reflecting on the development of the national innovation and creativity environment. // End //18:50 Mecca Time 0171
