The World Bank highlighted in its report on the AI SandboX, a regulatory sandbox for artificial intelligence in digital education launched by the National Center for e-Learning in Saudi Arabia a year and a half ago, the role the initiative plays in developing human capabilities and maximizing the social and economic impact of innovation, confirming that the Saudi experience represents a national model that supports building a knowledge-based economy driven by innovation and enhances the readiness of national competencies for future requirements.

The report stated that the initiative, led by the National Center for e-Learning, combines solution development, capacity building, governance, and partnerships, enabling institutions and innovators to develop and test AI applications in real and safe educational environments, and transform innovative ideas into scalable and applicable solutions. The World Bank confirmed that this approach contributes to enhancing the innovation ecosystem, raising institutional readiness, and producing evidence-based knowledge, supporting the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, particularly in human capability development, the digital economy, and innovation.

The initiative's results embody this impact, as it has empowered over 6,300 beneficiaries, developed 41 AI-based solutions, formed 22 local and international strategic partnerships, and produced eight evidence-based research papers; reflecting the Kingdom's success in building an integrated national ecosystem that combines innovation, capacity development, and institutional collaboration. The World Bank report highlights that the value of AI SandboX lies not only in the solutions it developed but also in its ability to build a sustainable national environment that enables responsible innovation, enhances the Kingdom's competitiveness, and provides a model that countries and educational systems can benefit from in employing artificial intelligence to serve education and development.
